Simon's book review

DRACULA
By Bram Stoker
Illustrated by Tudor Humphries

This book is shortened story of Bram Stokers spine-chilling story, Dracula. It all starts when Jonathan Harker is asked to go to Transylvania to do business with Count Dracula. But what he dose not know is that Count Dracula is not who he thinks he is. The count is a vampire who plans to move to London and suck the blood of innocent victims. The ways of killing a vampire are a silver bullet, a stake in the heart or there head chopped off and there body burned. This is a great book for people who love a bit of scare. I will rate this book 8 out of 10 and it is for ages 8-13. This book can be found in our School Library.

Question to Comment on this week...

What are some of the biggest challenges today's youth (People your age) face in growing up and getting along in society and at school?

You may also like to think about and compare NZ youth to other countries and cultures in the world. You could comment on similarities and differences the young people are faced with in relation to challenges in day to day life in NZ.

Please feel free to comment, add thoughts and also comment on other peoples thoughts.

Book Review by Ben

My name is Ben and recently I read this book from the school library

This book is called “The Chickens are Restless” by Gary Larson

I liked the bit with the wolves in Monday night in the woods and the bunny and the donkey .This book is a good for a laugh and it’s a good picture book. It is for a person with a good sense of humour .Its from the far side collection. I would give it a 8 out of 10.These cartoons are famous and made by Gary Larson.

Michael Fox Otago Science Fair

For the Balmacewen Science fair I conducted an experiment on the Kaikorai Stream to see if the water standards were suitable for the plants and animals living in it. I conducted 5 tests, temperature, resistance, conductivity , level of PH and visible clarity they all were suitable which was good.
My project was chosen to go to the Otago Science fair!!!!

I went to the Otago Museum on 20th of August for the Otago Science Fair. We took the bus and got there at 10:10am and had to wait to get judged it took about an hour and a half to get judged and they asked me lots of questions I was nervous. After the show and questions we had to wait for another 20 minutes till we left in the bus.

Then on 22nd of August my Mum got me a message at school saying I had won 4 awards I was so excited can’t wait for Prize giving on 26th of august!
