Science Roadshow Visit
The science road show was amazing all the classrooms enjoyed it. The really cool thing was............ when they lit the fuse and mad the balloon blow up it was really loud because even if you did block your ears you could still here it go BOOOOOOOOOOM. After all of that we got to go around and interact with all the science things. My favourite one and I think a few others would have to be the brittle nails when you had to lie down on a bed of nails and when you sit on it your bum is sore. We really enjoyed it and it was really fun.

A Story...
or was it a dream?
Our class packed these black bags and set off to Room 7.
There we went through the cupboard door & came to the sausage factory. A man called Keith showed us how sausages were made by putting hedgehogs through the machine. They came out in tubes. You had to wrap them in horse intestines. I said to Monica I am never going to eat a` sausage again.
After that we went to the back field and plop! I fell into a ditch.
It went black. I woke up. The clock said 6:00. I fell back asleep not knowing what was going to happen next…….
We were in our class making Christmas cards for everyone. I looked at the class list. I only had to make one for Ben now. I had done everyone else’s and I now had writers cramp. My pen leaked so now when Ben opens it he is going to have ink on his fingers and a very blue card.
Oh dear. Mr Sloan was throwing magnets at the whiteboard seeing which one would hit the ‘Bulls eye’. “Mr Sloan why can’t we go outside?” Jesse whined. Mr Sloan kept on playing. “WHOAH YEAH!!!” Mr Sloan said jumping up and down. “I hit the 100!” “MR SLOAN WE WANNA GO OUTSIDE!” our whole class shouted. “Okay” he sighed. We ran outside down across the field out of Balmacewen, across Lynn St and to the golf course. We galloped down an alley way where an old couple and their 8 children were playing Frisbee. The boys banged into them and the couple shook their fists and the children spat. The boys sprinted off. “Boys these days” Zoe muttered “Totally” Sonja & Hayley chorused. “What’s this?!” Marc shouted. We all ran to catch up with Marc. “A large house!” Phillip said. Eman cried. Lydia was astonished. Roi was chuffed. Mr Sloan’s jaw dropped & the Tennis Ball he was holding rolled out of his hands. The house was made of brick. I counted the floors. There were 32 floors! I couldn’t believe it. The tennis ball rolled to the door. The door creaked then clicked open. “Come on” yelled Tegan said who had a taste for adventure. We followed her through the door. The sun rays beamed through the windows. The door closed behind us. Bang! It echoed through the rickety house. I saw an old spiral staircase. With some stairs that were broken it was the only way up. We went through all the floors. The top floor had heaps of Beds. Damon started jumping on them we found a bed each and everyone jumped on the beds. We decided it was time to go. But when we were coming down some stairs broke and I fell through the stairs! I fell down 20 floors and everything went black then white. I saw my class! We were in a very white hospital. We came out with cut and bruises but that’s all. I told my mum about the house. We went too said but it had vanished. It had gone. We had a class disco and everyone had a great time. Well I’m not going to a sausage factory ever again.

Ramadan by Eman
Tomorrow, Friday the 14th of September, the Ramadan start, It lasts for one month. During Ramadan you can only eat after sunset and before sunrise-we eat special soup and have a special drink. After eating we pray. When Ramadan is over we go to the Mosque in our traditional clothes and we eat Baclawa there. The children get money from aunts and uncles. We celebrate for three days. People who are not Muslim can come to the Mosque to see what it is like. The Mosque thanks Monica Bae and Gal Harlavan and my ESOL teacher for the poster and lanterns. I will be taking part in Ramadan and fasting for the next month.

Book Review: Dark Secret by Lisa Vasil
I’m Adelaide and I just read an exciting book called “ Dark Secret” from the Room 11 Library Corner.
Here’s the blurb: At last! Someone’s Connie’s age has moved in next door. But when Amanda doesn’t return a friendly wave, Connie thinks they’ll never become friends. In fact Connie soon realises that it’s Amanda who’s friendly and her twin sister is always rude. Rachel seems to hate Connie. Could she be jelous? Why can’t Connie be friends with both twins? Then Amanda has to go to hospital for a serious operation and Rachel is worse than ever. What is Rachel’s dark secret? Connie decides to find out even if it means losing Amanda's friendship....
Here’s an extract: “I don’t believe you!” Rachel screamed. “Get out of here, go away!” “ Allright!” I yelled. “ I will it’s the simple truth but if you if you want to be sulky and hurt people, because of something you think you did, then go ahead! Just listen, no matter how much it hurts it’s the truth!”
A book of Truth, Friendship and Confession.
A nailbiting drama.

Simon's book review
By Bram Stoker
Illustrated by Tudor Humphries
This book is shortened story of Bram Stokers spine-chilling story, Dracula. It all starts when Jonathan Harker is asked to go to Transylvania to do business with Count Dracula. But what he dose not know is that Count Dracula is not who he thinks he is. The count is a vampire who plans to move to London and suck the blood of innocent victims. The ways of killing a vampire are a silver bullet, a stake in the heart or there head chopped off and there body burned. This is a great book for people who love a bit of scare. I will rate this book 8 out of 10 and it is for ages 8-13. This book can be found in our School Library.

Book Review by Ben
My name is Ben and recently I read this book from the school library
This book is called “The Chickens are Restless” by Gary Larson
I liked the bit with the wolves in Monday night in the woods and the bunny and the donkey .This book is a good for a laugh and it’s a good picture book. It is for a person with a good sense of humour .Its from the far side collection. I would give it a 8 out of 10.These cartoons are famous and made by Gary Larson.

Michael Fox Otago Science Fair
For the Balmacewen Science fair I conducted an experiment on the Kaikorai Stream to see if the water standards were suitable for the plants and animals living in it. I conducted 5 tests, temperature, resistance, conductivity , level of PH and visible clarity they all were suitable which was good.
My project was chosen to go to the Otago Science fair!!!!
I went to the Otago Museum on 20th of August for the Otago Science Fair. We took the bus and got there at 10:10am and had to wait to get judged it took about an hour and a half to get judged and they asked me lots of questions I was nervous. After the show and questions we had to wait for another 20 minutes till we left in the bus.
Then on 22nd of August my Mum got me a message at school saying I had won 4 awards I was so excited can’t wait for Prize giving on 26th of august!
